I chose this as my first review of a game because its one of the few I continuously go back to.
I have been playing Guild Wars for just over 2 years now and have never looked back and thought "what a waste" like so many people do when they buy something that doesnt meet up to their expectations. In Guild Wars I was expecting it to be more killing and questing like so many current MMO's that are currently around (World of Warcraft, Runescape and Everquest 2, to name but a few), but with Guild Wars its different, it has things that both sides can enjoy, you have the 3 campaigns Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and the expansion Eye of the North, all of which a player who likes Role Playing can play through the story of the Guild Wars world and meet many new people.
Player versus Environment (PvE for short) gives players the opportunity to play as one of the professions through the campaign of their choosing and fight an evil that is bent on destroying the world ( I know its the whole good versus evil thing but no good game would be without it). Players can team up with their friends, Guild mates or even use heroes/henchmen to go through the story and put a stop to the evil that threatens the world.
Player versus Player (PvP) gives the players the opportunity to fight against other players in the different aspects of the game like in the Random Arena, which puts random players together to fight another group of random players to try and work their way to the team arena. Team Arena gives players the chance to make a team with friends to fight their way to gain entrance to Heroes Ascent in which players can do even more PvP'ing to aim for a chance to win in the Hall of Heroes. Hall of Heroes is one of the elite PvP places of Guild Wars that lets players fight for a chance to enter the Hall of Heroes and have their team or guild name announced accross the world of Guild Wars that they won a fight in their.
Another main thing of Guild Wars is their Guild system, which allows groups of friends to all be part of the same group and even take part in the Guild versus Guild battles with tournaments every month for the top ranking guilds or if fighting another guild is not your style you can use your guild hall as a place to hang and meet new friends and members of your guild.
Guild Wars prides itself on not having a monthly fee although the only payment is for the campaign that you want, unless you want them all for which your local retailer should stock it, if not try checking online.
If there is one thing I can say though is that Guild Wars will always have something for me to do in-game ( its been over 2 years and i still have things i can do ) and I'm glad that I was introduced to it. For a gamer like me this is one of my favourite games I have played. The hours of endless play-time I can get from this game, whether it's doing missions/dungeons with friends or just going into the towns/outposts and meeting new people, makes this game a worthy investment.
